There has been a school in Henham for over 155 years.  It moved to its current site in 1975 from the old building in Crow Street which is now known as OSCA.

The School

The School has seven, single-aged classes in the main school with 196 children, and a further 37 children in the Nursery. Within these classes, groups of children are taught according to their individual needs through an exciting theme based curriculum.

The purpose built Nursery is fully integrated into the life of the school and has access to all of the main school facilities.

Facilities outside include an extensive playing field, two playgrounds, a wildlife garden and an adventure play area. In late 2004 an excellent Sports and Community Hall was added.

The school enjoys close links with the village community, including the church, sports clubs, youth organisations and local services.

The new hall

Children are admitted to the Nursery in the term after their third birthday and are entitled to 5 three hour sessions of quality provision. There is also an option for children to enjoy lunch in nursery for a small cost.  Parents may be also able to purchase additional afternoon sessions, depending on numbers. The children from the 'catchment area', Henham and Ugley, can then remain in the school until the age of eleven. Children from outside of the catchment can apply for a place in the main school along with their peers.

Children move from the Nursery into the Reception class of the main school at the beginning of the year during which they will be five years old. If you live outside the "catchment area", application may be made to the Local Education Authority to request a place. Please contact the Head Teacher for more information.
