Towards the end
of 2000 I wondered whether
there was anything about Henham on the internet. The answer was not a lot,
and what there was seemed to have been written by people outside the
village. Many other villages seemed to have their own sites, but not us.
As a result I thought I would have a try at putting one together.
Originally I did think of soliciting sponsorship to help
defray costs, but the parish council very kindly offered to pay for the site name and for 'site hosting'
for the first, second and now up to the sixth year.
We are therefore not beholden to anybody and the site is ours.
The
people who host the site offer a service which tells me the number
of 'hits' the site receives. This counts the number of different
computers that visit the site not the number of times people come
to the home page. This statistic is perhaps less flattering,
but perhaps more meaningful. It also tells me roughly from
which countries these 'hits' come from.
Normally
we average in excess of 400 hits of this type per month..
The UK,
the US and those categorised as 'unknown' account for about 80%,
the remaining 20% have come, in no particular order or priority, from the following - South Africa, New
Zealand, Australia, Sweden, Saudi Arabia, Finland, Spain, Russia,
France, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Colombia,
US Military, Singapore, Austria, Belgium, Thailand, Bulgaria,
Brazil, Argentina, Israel, Hong Kong, Greece and Holland.
I remain willing to set up pages for any group or club or anyone who wishes to write
on a subject which would be of interest to others.
