Water Works in Henham
The Parish Council has had a meeting today with Affinity Water and their contractors to discuss the disruption caused by the forthcoming works in High Street/ Chickney Road. The text below is an explanation of the issues and the mitigations from the contractors that will hopefully allow the village to function during the disruption.
The Parish Council have achieved what we believe to be the best we can hope for during the works. Residents living between the War Memorial and the Rugby Club will be able to access their properties during the works, They should be able to travel between their properties and Elsenham Station, the school and exits towards Bishops Stortford etc. On the odd day there may be difficulty, but this will be announced well in advance on Henham Facebook. Allow a few more minutes for your journeys. All deliveries, post, milk, refuse, delivery vans, building works deliveries should remain in operation. Emergency services will have complete access. The works will be 7 days a week to keep them as short as possible.
The workmen are trained to deal with the public and will respond to any particular requests.
The Paris Council hopes that residents will take a positive attitude to this necessary work and use the links below if there are any problems. Every Parish Councillor is ready to deal with any issues if asked.
The work may be completed well ahead of schedule.......fingers crossed.
Chairman. Henham Parish Council
Water main replacement in Henham
From Monday 13 March work will begin on replacing the water main running from the War Memorial along the High Street onto Chickney Road where it will finish on Friday 20 April.
This work is essential as the water main has been identified through continual monitoring as being vulnerable to leaking or even bursting due to the age of the pipe and its possible condition. The old cast iron main will be replaced with a new plastic one guaranteeing the supply of good quality drinking water for years to come.
Although essential work, we know that inevitably it will cause disruption and naturally residents may have concerns. Morrison Utility Services and Affinity Water will work together with you to address these.
The road closure
The road closure is in operation for through traffic. Access will be maintained for residents and businesses throughout the road closure. We will do all that we can to make sure that residents are able to use the road and that you can go into and come out of your home as you would do normally. At times, where heavy machinery is in use or a large excavation is open, you may be asked to take an alternative route. We hope that these incidences will be isolated.
If you are experiencing problems or have any querie
Please talk to the team on site. There will be a supervisor on site at all times and he will be supported by a site agent who will also be regularly available. Our team takes pride in ensuring that they get their work done while maintaining a good relationship with the local community, they really are happy to help. Alternatively, please contact Lucie Cox, Morrison Utility Services’ Community Engagement Adviser email@example.com who will also be happy to help.
Health and safety
Closing the road is not an option taken lightly; it is designed to ensure the safety of the community and our team. When you are using the road and work is taking place, please keep your speed to a minimum and be aware of signs and barriers. You may want to allow a few more minutes than it would normally take you. The emergency services will have access to the road at all times.
We will keep you updated regularly on the progress of our work and will alert you to any occasions where access on the road will be restricted. We are grateful to the Parish Council for assisting us with this. Please look out for our updates.
